Values and history - We fight for fair
At Maurice Blackburn we fight for outcomes that make a genuine
difference to peoples' lives. Outcomes that provide long-term
solutions for our clients, not just short-term assistance. We
do this because we recognise that the compensation you receive is
vital to ensuring quality of life for both yourself and your
family.
Our lawyers act for people who have been badly treated or
suffered loss; personal or financial.
We act in class actions for groups, individuals,
shareholders and businesses who have suffered loss due to illegal
corporate behaviour. This includes representing more than 150,000
people in class actions against the banks for unfair fees. Our
firm represented gas consumers in the major class action against
Esso following the 1998 Longford gas plant explosion which
caused a two-week loss of Victoria's gas supply. We also
represented
GIO shareholders in a landmark case action involving corporate
governance issues.
As one of Australia's leading labour law firms we've acted in
many high profile employment law and industrial relations disputes,
including acting for the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) in its
1998 landmark
dispute against Patrick Stevedores.
Through Maurice Blackburn Commercial, we also provide
advice and act in commercial litigation for a wide range of union
and business clients.
At the heart of Maurice Blackburn is our
Social Justice Practice which takes on cases of broad community
concern.
The values at the heart of our approach
At Maurice Blackburn we value integrity, fairness and hard work.
Like our clients, our lawyers come from all kinds of backgrounds
and have different experience and expertise. As lawyers we
believe in a fair fight and a fair outcome.
A history of fighting for fair outcomes
Maurice Blackburn, formerly Maurice Blackburn & Co, was
founded in 1919 by Maurice McCrae Blackburn. He
was a distinguished lawyer and a Labor member of the Victorian and
Federal Parliaments.
From the very beginning, our firm fought cases involving civil
liberties, underprivileged groups and the rights of ordinary
people. Our belief in fighting for the rights of our clients
continues to this day and is reflected in our cases, the principles
by which we operate and our results.
We fight for fair. And have done since
1919.
